BALAN NAMBIAR: Painter, sculptor, enamellist, photographer and a research scholar, born in 1937 in Kannapuram, Kannur District, Kerala and in 1971, acquired Diploma in Fine Arts (Sculpture, First Class), Government College of Arts & Crafts, Madras/ Chennai.

Major projects: 2004: A 602 cms. high free-standing stainless steel sculpture for the cooperate office Complex of TIMKEN at the Electronic City in Bangalore. 2003: A 5.3 meter high hanging stainless steel sculpture for ING-Vysya Bank, Bangalore. 2000: Large stainless steel sculpture, "Valampiri Shankha", for Texas Instruments, using computer-generated designs and laser cutting technology. 1998: Sculptural mural in metal for the atrium of a multi-storied building, Brigade Residency,Bangalore. Four-in-one sculpture composition (7 meters tall, steel) for the atrium of SI's Carlton Towers, Airport Road, Bangalore. Sculpture in steel (4.1 metres tall) for JNC, Bangalore. 1995: Large sculptural composition (3 x 3 x 1.25 meters, granite) for Jawaharlal Nehru Centre (JNC) for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore. 1995: Two works in New Delhi at the International Artists' workshop sponsored by the Japan Foundation, Lalit Kala Akademi and the Max Mueller Bhavan: "Monument to the Assassinated" ( 2. 5 x 5. 6 x 1. 8 meters/ Kota stone, steel and granite/ MMB) and "Resurrection of Janaki" (approx. 15 x 12 meters, installation at Buddha Jayanti Park). 1980: Commissioned by Sakuntala Manay to execute a 20ft high memorial sculpture to her father, the late Prof. N A Nigam, in Bangalore. 1978: Six large sculptures in glass fibre reinforced cement at the R & D Centre of Portland Cement Factory, Heidelberg, Germany.
